West Cork Artists - Sylk - Virtu - Art - Interview at studio near Skibbereen

Sylk's Studio sign as seen from the road from Skibbereen on the N71
A familiar sight to all that travel this road through West Cork.
One bright day Sylk got together with Virtu - Art to discuss her passions in life, her love and respect for nature
and the underlying knowlegde and understanding she has of her place in the universe. Sylk was drawn to West Cork by it's beauty
and with the added attraction of being able to live a less complicated life. Here in West Cork Sylk has drawn from ancient pagan
traditions and the belief that if asked nature spirits would be available for help and inspiration. A simple life and the
natural elements that Sylk welcomes into her life are what inspires her to paint. Here in West Cork her home is near the lakes
which feature in some of her paintings.
Sylk confided in me that she had been looking for an agent to represent her artwork for about 10 years in her search she has been
approached by many but none has been right for her. Following her recent experience with Virtu - Art exhibiting in
South West Cork Delights at Doswell Gallery. She has decided that there is no one she would rather go with in fact she
said "I trust you totally with my work".

Title: Secret Garden Size: 91 cm x 51 cm Medium: Oil on Canvas
Price: Euros 340
"Usually all my paintings come from love, many things inspire me to paint even the music I listen to. There are times when I sit
in front of a canvas for days, not knowing what I am meant to be doing. It is then in these times when I would consult my
Goddess Cards I will ask them what am I supposed to be doing. I tend to consult them very time I am about to work. I ask
the goddess and the fairies to help and guide me in my work. I ask them what am I meant to be doing."

Title: Avalon Size: 90 cm x 49 cm Medium: Oil on Canvas

Sylk often paints her emotions, a particular painting came about after having an argument with her mother. "I was so hurt and angry
that I just went up there and splodged all the paint around and put it all behind barbed wire. My artwork is rarely borne out of anger
just the odd one. I find that kind of painting to be very therapeutic".

Title: Migrain Size: 111 cm x 120 cm Medium: Oil on Canvas
Price: Euros 940
Sylk suffers a lot with migraines, the half an hour to an hour before the pain starts and the lights are flashing off each other in a colidyscope
effect, you think how great that would be to capture that. "I just wanted to see if I could capture what I see beforehand. I feel quite good about
the overall effect that I have achieved but it does not move. I was unable to capture the zig zag movement and the jaggedness of the pre-
migrain visions, in this painting I have captured the essence of it."
Sylk has many visitors to her studio if you interested in visiting Sylk she would be happy. She just requests that you contact her
before hand to arrange a suitable time to call 087 6855428 Sylk lives in a mobile black spot area so asks you to TEXT ahead of time.
